What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, Haruki Murakami

I’ve always wondered what drives some of us to take up
running. Moreover, I’m intrigued by the stories in Haruki
Murakami’s books. I’ve always asked myself, « where does he get such
twisted, interesting ideas from ». So, I was immediately attracted
to that book. What I did not know is that Murakami is a marathon
and triathlon runner. When I practice sports, I always try to stop
when pain arises but it seems that Murakami searches the pain and
the self-discovery that comes with it, the discovery of one’s own
limitations among others. It is also a way for him to balance his
life, against his sedentary writing activity. I cannot do anything
else than agree with that. With days spent on the computer, I need
the escape of sport to channel my energy, refresh my mind.

Kafka on the shore, Haruki Murakami

I enjoyed this book a lot. It is much better than Norwegian Woods by the same author.

The story is very strange. A group of kids collapse in a clearing. A man can talk to cats. A teenager believes to have killed his father remotely. Bit by bit, all the pieces fit together. It is an amazing book. Throughout the book I was seduced by the kindness of most of the characters. I recommend reading this book.
